Who Cares?
I really don't care. That is the summation of my recent feelings for the past few weeks. I really don't care. I don't care which celebrity got drunk and pissed himself. I don't care what damn color some actress' hair is. I don't care what team got which player. I don't really care what team scored how many points. I don't care who broke up with who, who cheated on who, or what "that b**** said, or who's a douche. I don't care how drunk you got or how many people you slept with last weekend. I don't care to hear the emotionally charged whining of someone who is so wrapped up in themselves and suffers an overabundance of "It's all about me." I don't care about the stupid, nonsensical, trivial, utterly meaningless crap that apparently is the mainstay of our society. I really don't care. Before someone takes it personal and pipes up, unnecessarily I might add, with the standard "My problems aren't trivial, I'm serious..." or any other comment that would serve to make this post about them, let me state clearly, THIS IS NOT ABOUT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR. It is only a generalization of events and situations, DIRECTED AT NO ONE. If you legitimately want to come to me with a problem, just want someone to listen, ask for advice, or whatever the case, I do care, and I have no problem with that. If I call myself your friend, that is what I am here for. However, please do NOT get emotional about this, direct it towards yourself, and make it about you. It aint. What I do care about is the fact that we still have men dying overseas, yet the friggin color of an actress' hair is the headline news. How many of you can tell me how many men died in the last 6 months in the 'Stan? Now, how many of you can tell me the scores for the football games, the starting lineups for the major teams, what celeb married who, and all sorts of other crap that has absolutely no relevance on life? More people will be able to answer one than the other. What else do I care about...the fact that every 80 minutes, a veteran commits suicide. I don't care about football scores or rushing yards or whatever. This, however, is one statistic that I certainly do care about. I care that this nation is now over 16 trillion dollars in debt, yet we still keep spending money on pensions and vacations for congress and the senate. We spend it on benefits for people who have neither the right nor the privilege to them. We give it away to nations that are only going to turn around in a few short years and use it against us. I do care that our government claims to take care of our military, yet billions are being cut from healthcare and defense, and our armed forces are shrinking quicker than Hugh Hefner without Viagra. I care that our schools are, and have been for quite some time, the laughing stock of the academic world. I care that college tuition goes up every year, yet every year sees more and more new graduates jobless. I care that the majority of Americans are too lazy to research current events on their own. I care that Americans are more interested in either deifying or demonizing political candidates than they are actually discovering for themselves what each candidate/party is truly about. I care that so many people use the excuse "I don't have enough time." Yet hours upon hours are spent in front of a computer screen or tv playing video games or some derivative of a "---Ville" game or watching some completely asinine tv show. I care that teen pregnancy is no longer the wake up call it once was; now it is a glorification of irresponsibility and unwise and selfish choices. I have a 16 year old kid sister that I pray everyday does not fall prey to this abhorrent tribute to stupidity. I care about all these children I see on a very regular basis without fathers in their lives. I care how these children are going to grow up, and how they are supposed to learn the lessons they need to survive and succeed, when their parents are acting no better than their children, if the parents are even around. I care that we have two political candidates who do nothing more than spout inflated numbers, positively for themselves and negatively for the other person. I care that I was always taught never to glorify or deify anyone but Christ, yet, everywhere I go, the current president is revered in almost royal manner, his name spoken in near whispers, magnified as if he is the second coming of Christ with the host of angels sitting at his back. I care that everything that happens positive during the current administration is attributed SOLELY to the president, while everything negative that happens is attributed to the former president, Darth Vader, global warming, the iceberg that sank the Titanic, starving babies in Ethiopia, Frodo using the One Ring, and pretty much any and every other reason---as long as it is not the president, since, you know, he it too pure and holy to make any mistakes. I care that by acknowledging things wrong with the current administration, someone is going to tell me that I am racist and hateful...even though, you know, I did it during the last one, and I'll do it during the next one. I care that the biggest strategy of BOTH candidates and BOTH major parties has been to sling mud and argue points that have almost no relevance. Even the partisan, diarrhea-deluge, copycat media has commented on the fact that the mudslinging has risen to never before seen levels. Most of all, I care that I will have children one day, God willing. And I look at the state of the world today, the state of my country. And it makes me almost not want to have kids, just to spare them growing up in a world so backwards and self absorbed and ignorant and irresponsible.
